CLAPA Children and Young Peoples Council Report

Danielle Keohane reports on the latest council meeting.

Dear Left Clip readers,

We had the CLAPA council meeting on the 24th January 2009. It was my first one after joining the C&YP council last October.

It was very quiet at first, (as i'd previously been told it would be!) but finally Sandy (with a little help from Rory!) got everyone talking about
the Christmas holidays, while we waited for the others to arrive. I played the role of ‘New Girl' and sat quietly, waiting to be spoken to!! Once Sandy had ordered the pizza's we went through and played a ‘getting to know you' game, then we briefly went over writing some factsheets to help Young People with different issues such as Bullying, Parental Support and Braces. Using my fantastic computer skills (!?), we managed to plan out our factsheet on braces. By this point I think everyone was getting extremely hungry (might have been something to do with the fact that the pizza's were already an hour and a half late!). Finally, the 2 large pizzas came in but were eaten within minutes!

With open minds and full stomachs, everyone went back to their seats and talked with the Chief Executive of CLAPA, Rosanna Preston, about how we could raise awareness about Cleft Lip and Palates. We thought about who we were aiming for (health specialists / general public), why do these people need to
know about it and how we can get the message across. If anyone has any ideas, let one of us know using the clapaedge website (http://www.clapaedge.com)!
I really enjoyed the meeting, and am glad to have joined the council as I think we (with help from you, of course!) can make a big difference.

Cya all!
