Cambodia 2014: Week Seven

From what we have gathered so far there is no real appointment system here in Cambodia so this is something we have been attempting to organise for the speech therapy services here. Our speech advisor Samnang is delighted with the new wall planner, in which he is now able to book and keep track of appointments, which he has been doing independently!

Orthodontists, Cleft surgeon, Speech Therapists and medical students at case discussion.

In previous weeks we had identified several patients suitable for therapy. During our time in Cambodia we plan to model therapy sessions…

Cambodia 2014: Week Six

So we’ve come to the end of week 6, which is half way through our time in Cambodia. We’ve written the midway reviews and have been pleased with the progress that has been made but there is still a lot of work to be done to achieve the goals we set out at the beginning!

On Tuesday we started modelling articulation therapy to Samnang. Samnang already does an excellent job giving advice to his patients but this year we wanted to move the service on so he could start doing some basic articulation therapy with those patients that live close…

It’s been a very busy week! One of the main goals of the City-Cambodia project is to train local staff to ensure a sustainable SLT service is provided all year round and to build links between other NGOs and services to promote multi-disciplinary working. This week we planned to start working towards our goals.

Cambodia 2014: Week Three

This week felt like a proper week! Now introductions and the holiday are over we feel like we can properly begin work.

This week we focused on observing the speech advisors to see how the service is currently run.

On Tuesday we arrived at CSC for the 8am meeting, this involves case discussion and mini presentations provided by all departments of the hospital. It was really interesting to see how every opportunity is taken to educate staff and how everyone is keen to learn. We ourselves learnt a lot about vaccinations! Whilst children might be vaccinated here, we learnt that…
