Hi im Gemma and im 19 I was born with a cleft lip and it was mended soon after i was born, I was wondering if anyone knew what the precedure is called that i would have to sort out my nose as i cant breathe out of the left side of my nose, Thanks xxx

does it matter if you cant breathe out of your nose??? but im guessing maybe if you chose to have plastic surgery it might be fixed then?? im not sure sorry! xx

Do you still see your cleft surgeon? If not then I’m sure you can get back in touch via your GP. They should be able to do some sort of surgery to clear the nasal passage. If you need to talk any more feel free to Private Message me xx

I know what you mean, i’ve had 20something operations and i still can’t breathe through one side of my nose :/ i know the plastic surgery to re-shape the nose is called a rhinoplasty - not the nicest of things, but it helped me quite a lot, but they won’t do that unless you really need it (from a visual point of view as well) - so if your nose looks okay, i’m not too sure, but i’ve heard a lot about the range of different surgeries that surgeons can perform to fix all sorts of problems regarding cleft lips/palates. Speak to your local cleft team about it, or if you’re not sure about it, talk to your GP - i know it’s a bit weird asking, but it’d be worth it, i know it’s something i’m gonna look into once i’ve had the jaw surgery later this year.
