Hi There

I am new to Clappa Edge, I found the site whilst searching for information about rhinoplasty

I am 16 years old and have a cleft palate an clip - both now completely repaired.  I am due to go in hospital on the 8th October for my nose operation.  I have just started college and wondered if any body knew how long it takes and when I will be ok!!!

Cheers Jess.

ps I had to have speech therapy when I was younger amd I hated it, but i’m really glad I did cos I just got an A* in French and an A in Spanish and without speech therapy I would have failed!!!!!

Hi Jess,

I have got a answer from a surgeon about your question. I hope it helps, see below:

Rhinoplasty is a straight forward operation but the details vary from surgeon to surgeon and patient to patient.

Usually you go in to hospital the day before or on the day of surgery.

The operation is under general anaesthetic and takes between one and two hours.

When you wake up there will probably be a splint of some sort on the outside of your nose and probably a pack or plastic splint in your nostrils.

Usually it is ok to go home the day after surgery or occasionally the day after that.

The internal splint or pack comes out first at anything between 2 days and 3 weeks depending on how much support is needed for what has been done to the nose.

The external splint stays on for between 10 days and 3 weeks.

After the splint comes off the nose is still swollen but the bruising has usually settled and many people would feel able to go back to college or work.

For more specific details for your operation check with your surgeon or specialist nurse on the team.

If you have anymore question Jess please do ask. Good Luck grin

Hi, for those of you who are interested, I had my Rhinoplasty op as planned last October - not very nice but I didnt have a spint or anything.  Had a HUGE plaster over my nose for 7 days and that was it, stitches out and quite a good result, not perfect, but a great improvement.

Dont have to see the Surgeon now until im 20 - just started with the brace work on my teeth tho.

Cheers Jess X
